Why it matters for fans
Viewers eager for new episodes still have no release date, but Popverse notes that seasons 1 through 7 are streaming now on Netflix. That gives fans a full catalog to revisit while they wait for season 8. New viewers can also catch up on earlier episodes before the new season eventually arrives.
The new season will be the fifth produced by Netflix since the streamer began making episodes in 2016, according to Popverse. Little else is known about the upcoming season's storylines or cast. Popverse also notes that the show has a way of predicting the future, a nod to its themes.
What else is coming
The Black Mirror news arrived as Netflix also confirmed renewals for other U.K. shows. A second season of Legends, a drama about undercover customs officers, will have six episodes and enter production next year. Being Gordon Ramsay, a reality series about chef Gordon Ramsay, is already in production and will return next year.
